Hamilton screams his way to the pole..!

The current Formula One championship leader, McLaren's Lewis Hamilton won the pole position at his home circuit, the Silverstone British Grand Prix yesterday. Hamilton, a 22-year old rookie, who as already won two and earned three poles out of the nine races at F1, he has taken part in. Hamilton cruised ahead of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen in the dying seconds.

"I came across the line and I could hear the crowd. I don't know if they could hear me, but I was screaming just as loud as them. It was an extremely intense qualifying session," said the rookie.

Felipe Massa won the second spot, while Fernando Alonso of McLaren snatched the third spot.
The Spaniard, who said earlier in the week that McLaren would be happier if his teammate won in Britain, did his best to put a brave face on being dealt yet another setback to his title hopes.

Hamilton, chasing his ninth successive podium in today's race, leads Alonso by 14 points in the championship. Massa is third, 17 points behind the Briton, with Raikkonen a further five adrift. McLaren is 25 points ahead of Ferrari.

But Jenson Button, who missed Friday's second practice due to back pains, failed to advance to the first session, and will start 18th in his home race - his lowest qualifying position of the season.
